THE RIVER + RULE COLLECTIONS
Objects with purpose.
Room for presence.
A light at the end of a day. A journal opened before the noise begins. Goods that invite us to give ordinary moments a little more attention.
Light for the road.
Familiar fragrances for a quiet evening, a welcoming room, or an unhurried conversation. The signature silver tin carries the Emmaus road cross and cream label; an amber glass format is planned.
Core fragrance direction: Peppermint and Eucalyptus, White Birch, Black Cherry Merlot, and Butterscotch and Bourbon. Seasonal direction: Apples and Maple Bourbon, Pumpkin Souffle, and Christmas Hearth.

Traditional craftsmanship.
Quiet hospitality.
A slower pace.
River + Rule grows from a life formed in communities along the Mississippi River and guided by a Rule of Life. For founder Jared H. Bryson, the river speaks of place, people, movement, and belonging. The rule gives a rhythm to prayer, work, rest, and hospitality.
The collection is a reminder of the things that form a person: the places we call home, the work of our hands, the people who welcome us, and the practices we return to. It celebrates the St. Louis region and the craft, character, and community found here.
ST. LOUIS MATERIALS · A REGIONAL STORY
Rooted here.
Made to be carried.
The leather used in River + Rule comes from St. Louis’ own Hermann Oak Leather, a local institution since 1881. Its tradition of vegetable tanning connects our work with a living part of the region’s craftsmanship.
HERMANN OAK · ST. LOUIS · ESTABLISHED 1881
A material
with a sense of place.
Choosing Hermann Oak is one way River + Rule celebrates the St. Louis region: useful pieces made with attention, carrying a connection to the place and traditions that help form us.
Our opening leather collection pairs that regional connection with everyday use: a wallet carried, a journal opened, a gift offered with care.
A FOLK SCHOOL VISION · IN DEVELOPMENT
Learn with your hands.
Grow in good company.
We are beginning to develop a place for the St. Louis region where artisans can teach, neighbors can learn, and traditional skills can be passed from one person to another.
Inspired by the folk school tradition, the vision brings together hands-on learning in traditional craft, art, music, and homesteading. We are exploring formats from short workshops and weekends to immersive weeklong sessions and online learning, shaped by the artisans and communities who help build it.
THE WORK WE HOPE TO SHARE
Skills worth
passing on.
Leatherwork, woodworking and carving, fiber and visual arts, music, gardening, foodways, and practical homesteading skills are areas for future development. The aim is meaningful work, patient learning, and the hospitality of making together.
AN INVITATION TO ARTISANS
Bring your craft.
Help shape the place.
We are looking for artisans, musicians, craft teachers, and community partners who would like to help develop this vision for St. Louis. Share what you practice, what you could teach, and the kind of gathering you would love to make possible.
This is a developing vision. A venue, class schedule, instructors, and registration will be shared as they are confirmed.
